Biblical Teaching on God living in the Believer's Soul (part ten)
This study continues the study of God's work in creating a home in your soul, i.e. a temple for the residence of Jesus Christ. This week we continue looking at God's construction project in the soul. Continuing in our study of Proverbs 24:3, Through wisdom a house is built, And by understanding it is established. We began looking at the Living room of the soul in the last message…
We previously had seen in the Living room…this is where most of your time is spent learning, relaxing, enjoying time with other people. This is where your comfortable chairs are for being hospitable for guests, book shelves for study materials and even musical instruments.
The bookshelves contain the Scriptures, great biographies of heroes of faith, examples of visionary dependence, and photo albums for invigorating our memories to higher goals. All of these resources give us and others we encourage greater dependency on God and motivation to press forward with God's plan.
Then of course there will be music by means of a stereo or musical instruments in the living room. Spiritually, we shout for joy to the Lord after we have been cleansed in the bathroom (Ps. 32:11). We sing psalms and hymns in the kitchen as we feast on the manna from heaven (Col. 3:16). And we sing for joy in our soul in the bedroom night watches (Ps. 63:6,7). The living room, however, is the grandest place of joyful singing, Listen to Psalm 119:169-175 169 Let my cry come before You, O LORD; Give me understanding according to Your word. 170 Let my supplication come before You; Deliver me according to Your word. 171 My lips shall utter praise, For You teach me Your statutes. 172 My tongue shall speak of Your word, For all Your commandments are righteousness. 173 Let Your hand become my help, For I have chosen Your precepts. 174 I long for Your salvation, O LORD, And Your law is my delight. 175 Let my soul live, and it shall praise You; And let Your judgments help me.
Rejoicing is a command from the Lord (Phil. 4:4) It is the result of fellowship in the Spirit (Eph. 5:18-19). Growing believers sing during testings and trials (Acts 16:25) It is the normal occurrence when believers gather together (country-regionplaceRom. 15:5-13).
Let's summarize: The soul castle is built by applied knowledge of God's Word. It won't soak through our brains. We have to take it in like food and let God do His work in our souls. We need to be dead to selfish desires and let God work His Spirit through His Word. How long would you be able to stand and recite verses of Scripture? Can you recite verses that God is using to conform your heart to Jesus Christ?
Secondly, We shall not live by bread alone, but God's Word. Matt. 4:4. WE enjoy food. How much do we enjoy taking in God's Word. You are in a battle everyday. The flesh, the world and devil are all fighting against you seeking to distract you from God's Word. The devil is trying to convince you that God's Word is difficult and overwhelming to study.
Thirdly, There ought to be joy in the living room. How many have had the Lord knock on the door of your soul, you've opened the door, talked to Him for a while and then shut the door? You didn't' invite Him in for fellowship. He's standing on your property, actually you belong to Him if you are a believer, wanting to dine with you and have a great time with you. The problem is the living room is such a mess, you're embarrassed to invite the Lord in. What will it take so that the Lord is not only on your property, but you are entertaining the Lord as your guest in every room of your soul? Is the Lord on your doorstep or in the living room enjoying your company and you His?
We'll look at the bathroom, bedroom, and roof next message. We'll then look at God's command to build the soul structure, the importance of good materials and the importance of regular cleaning. God is building a palace of glory in your soul - are you allowing Him?
