Biblical Teaching on Patience
It's easy to say patience is important and that all of us could use a little more of it - “and could you give it to us now, Lord?” Yet patience is not some pill God drops into your body, or a thought that causes you to be patient forevermore, or even a verse that you memorize that makes you patient. Patience is understood and then through a series of hundreds of tests, developed in stress, frustrating situations, pressure, hardship and even trouble to teach us to depend on God's character and timing, rather than our own.
Patience describes what God is like Romans 15:5
Scripture is clear about God's patience with Israel Nehemiah 9:30
God waits for us to depend on Him, so He can bless us Isaiah 30:18
God is often patient about resolving our problems to give us an opportunity to respond, repent, and adjust to His justice Jeremiah 15:15
We cry out for God to be patient when we have a gut check about the magnitude of our debt to Him Matthew 18:26.
Patience is ascribed to Jesus Christ regarding His return to earth Revelation 1:9

When we wait patiently for the Lord, He will answer and act Psalm 40:1. How long you have to wait is up to God, not us. Our responsibility is to wait and function with what we know and act according to what God has revealed in His will.
If you are willing to wait, God will lead you into truth Psalm 25:5
Waiting on the Lord in integrity is the key to deliverance Psalm 25:20-21; Proverbs 20:22;

Patience is something we are commanded to pursue 1 Timothy 6:11. That would mean we should welcome troubles, because it is through troubles that we develop patience. As a result of pursuing patience, we also inherit (make real) the promises of God's Word in our lives as Abraham patiently waited on the Lord Hebrews 6:12,15.
